Waikiki Resort District: Mobility Guide
- Length & Setup: A highly accessible, paved beachfront promenade stretching roughly 2 miles one-way (4 miles out-and-back) along Waikiki Beach.
- Route: Directly connects the Hilton Hawaiian Village on the west end to Kapiolani Park and Diamond Head on the east end, running past every major beachfront resort along the way.
- Highlights: The path runs directly past Royal Hawaiian Center, International Market Place, and Duke Kahanamoku Statue, all surrounded by accessible shops, oceanfront restaurants, and Hawaiian cultural landmarks.
- Mobility Advantage: Excellent for exploring the heart of Waikiki without the hassle of a car, with Mobi Mats at multiple beach access points for sand access.
- Length & Setup: A scenic, 2-mile paved canal path (one-way) running along the inland edge of Waikiki, fully flat and step-free the entire length.
- Best Access Point: Start at the Hilton Hawaiian Village end near Ala Moana Boulevard for the smoothest, step-free entry with the easiest curb cuts for users with mobility equipment.
- Avoid: Crossing the canal bridges at peak tourist hours (10 AM - 4 PM), as foot traffic and limited shoulder space can make navigation difficult on a scooter or wheelchair.
- Trail Conditions: The promenade is fully paved with smooth asphalt and wide enough for two-way scooter traffic. A great quieter alternative to the busier beachfront walkway, with stunning mountain views toward Manoa Valley.
- Nature: A fantastic spot for catching outrigger canoe paddlers training on the canal, sunset views over the Ko'olau mountains, and tropical birdlife along the water.

Honolulu & Ala Moana: Mobility Guide
- The Vibe: Waikiki is known for its world-famous beach, iconic luxury resorts, vibrant nightlife, oceanfront dining, and the legendary Diamond Head crater backdrop.
- The Terrain: Waikiki is mostly flat along the coast, but the resort district is densely packed with curbs, busy crosswalks, and crowded sidewalks running from Kalakaua Avenue to Kuhio Avenue and the Royal Hawaiian Center shopping district.
- Mobility Advantage: Because of these long blocks and crowded sidewalks, mobility scooters are a massive help for getting around easily without exhausting yourself.
- Length & Setup: A stunning, 1.5-mile paved coastal park path (3 miles out-and-back).
- Route: The path stretches from the Ala Moana Center end on the west up past Ala Moana Beach, Magic Island Lagoon, and the park's banyan-shaded picnic areas, ending near Kewalo Basin Harbor.
- Highlights: Beautiful panoramic views of Diamond Head and Waikiki across the bay, calm protected swimming waters, world-famous Honolulu sunsets, and excellent surf-watching from Magic Island during the winter season.
- Mobility Advantage: The path is fully paved with a combination of smooth concrete and accessible park walkways, with beach wheelchair loans available through Honolulu Parks.

We had an excellent experience with Mobility Store while visiting Maui. Before arriving, we were able to reserve several items for my dad, including a transport chair and a shower seat with armrests. We were staying at a rental house, and everything was delivered promptly early the morning after we landed in Maui, which made the start of our trip so much easier. After the first night, we realized my dad also needed a raised toilet seat. My mom messaged them, and they were able to quickly add a raised toilet seat with handles and deliver it along with the other equipment that morning. That level of responsiveness was incredibly helpful. All of the equipment was extremely clean and in excellent condition—honestly, it looked almost new. They even included bleach wipes in case we wanted to wipe anything down, though everything already appeared very well sanitized. We later realized the transport chair wasn’t quite meeting our needs, even though it was in great shape. My husband and I drove to their warehouse in Lahaina and were able to easily exchange it for a 20-inch wheelchair. Their warehouse was very clean and organized, and the durable medical equipment was in outstanding condition. The wheelchair we received was spotless and looked nearly brand new. I’ve worked in caregiving and healthcare for over 35 years and have used thousands of pieces of durable medical equipment throughout my career. I was genuinely impressed by the quality of their equipment, their professionalism, and how kind and prompt everyone was. I would highly recommend Mobility Store to anyone visiting Maui who needs mobility equipment. Having the right equipment available can make a huge difference in helping someone with decreased mobility enjoy their trip comfortably, and this team made the entire process easy and stress-free.

Grateful that we had a great experience renting a car seat from Akamai - we picked and dropped it off at our rental car place. They were responsive and were able ensure we received our seat in coordination with our flight arrival times. Highly recommended his local service, saved us a ton of headache and very reasonable $!

This company provides a great service to Maui. They have a huge variety of mobility and accessibility equipment for rent. They deliver and pick up for no extra charge. We rented some accessibility items that made the week much easier for us, and we also rented the beach walker, which was so much fun. We could walk on the beach again! It is large and difficult to steer on hard surfaces, but once you are on the sand it works very well.

I had an awesome experience with Akamai. Upon arrival after a 10-hour flight to Maui Hawaii, my son's legs had swollen so badly that he could not walk. We contacted Akamai on a Saturday morning on a holiday weekend and they had a wheelchair to us within an hour and a half. They also had other items to offer like shower chair, etc. They communicated drop off and pick up by text message. The price was very reasonable. I would highly recommend them.

I had a perfect experience with Akamai Mobility. A fracture in my knee was poorly timed, and I considered not taking my first ever trip to Maui, but knowing that medical rentals would be at the resort upon arrival is what helped me make the decision to go. The equipment was clean and in excellent condition. Communication is top notch. They responded quickly to messages and proactively let me know when the equipment was dropped off and when it would be picked up. I am pleased with the service I received. We saw another guest on crutches at the resort and told her to consider renting a wheelchair from Akamai for more ease and options. Highly recommend!
THANK YOU SO MUCH, AKAMAI MOBILITY!!!
