Big Island Mobility Scooter Rentals
Mobility Scooter Rentals Big Island
Premium scooter rentals delivered to your Kona or Waikoloa resort — clean, fully charged, and ready to ride the moment you arrive.
The Big Island spans nearly 30 miles of resort coastline, from the historic seawalls of Ali’i Drive in Kailua-Kona to the sprawling grounds of the Waikoloa Beach Resort and beyond. Akamai Mobility’s scooters are built to handle that terrain — lava-rock pathways, long resort walkways, and the famously sunny stretch between Kona and the Kohala Coast. With over 15 years serving Big Island visitors, we deliver scooters that arrive clean, fully charged, and tested for the specific conditions you’ll be navigating.

Built for Big Island Terrain
Big Island’s resort scene clusters along the sunny west coast, and each area presents different mobility considerations.
Kailua-Kona: Ali’i Drive Corridor
The historic Ali’i Drive corridor stretches roughly 7 miles from Kailua Pier down to Keauhou, with paved sidewalks, oceanfront walkways, and a string of shops, restaurants, and historic landmarks like Hulihe’e Palace and Mokuaikaua Church. The terrain is mostly flat along the waterfront, with steeper cross-streets connecting the oceanfront to the inland shopping centers above town. A lightweight or foldable scooter handles this corridor easily and is portable enough to transport in a rental car for day trips beyond Kona.
Waikoloa Beach Resort Area
The paved shoreline path connects the Waikoloa Beach Marriott, Hilton Waikoloa Village, Kings’ Shops, and Queens’ MarketPlace, running directly past Anaeho’omalu Bay (A-Bay) and the ancient Hawaiian fishponds. Resort grounds here are sprawling — the Hilton alone spans 62 acres with internal trams between buildings — and a heavy-duty scooter with longer 15-mile range and added comfort features is the better fit for guests covering the full property over a multi-day stay.
Kohala Coast: Mauna Lani, Hapuna & Mauna Kea
For the resorts further north along the Kohala Coast — Fairmont Orchid, Mauna Lani Auberge, Westin Hapuna Beach, and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel — the resort pathways are generally smooth and accessible, with paved sections of the Ala Kahakai Trail running between properties and along the coastline. A heavy-duty scooter with rear suspension and anti-tip stability performs well across the longer resort grounds, and is also well-suited for visiting the nearby Kalāhuipua’a Historic Trail and its ancient fishponds.
Lava Rock & Coastal Terrain Considerations
Big Island’s coastline includes more lava rock and uneven natural terrain than the other Hawaiian islands. While resort pathways are paved and accessible, some scenic spots — petroglyph fields, anchialine pools, the rugged sections of the Ala Kahakai Trail — feature mixed surfaces. A heavy-duty scooter with strong tires and stability features handles transitions between paved paths and the edges of these natural areas safely. For purely on-resort use, lightweight and foldable models perform beautifully on smooth resort sidewalks.
Whether you’re cruising Ali’i Drive at sunset, covering the full grounds of a Kohala Coast resort, or visiting Hawaiian cultural sites along the way, the right scooter makes the Big Island fully accessible.
